Report: Festival of Trees and Angels 2-3 December 2017
As a finale to our 200th anniversary celebrations we held our Festival of Trees and Angels.
As in previous years over 30 Christmas trees were on display decorated by various local organisations, most with an angel theme, but this year we also had some different angelic interpretations with three life size angels and one beautiful angel painting. The best dressed trees as voted for by our visitors throughout the weekend were:
Children's - Wescott School
Adult - Wokingham Lace Makers.
Entertainment over the festival included The Black Swan Hand Bell Ringers, The CLASP and Sing Healthy Choir, The Barbarettes, The Rock Choir and our own Church Music Group.
A fantastic 'Host' of volunteers ran a gift stall and a home-made stall selling cakes, jams and chutneys along with Traidcraft and Project Gateway stalls.
A special mention goes to Gill Manning and her amazing team who provided delicious lunches and afternoon teas throughout the weekend.
We welcomed many visitors with many of them coming along from events being held in the Market Place by the Town Council and the opening for the day of Bush walk. The Town council used the Bradbury Centre as a location for a brilliant balloon modeller who came along for the afternoon and made an array of balloon sculptures for the children. It is great that we had the support of the Town Council for the event.
We were also fortunate enough to be able to display examples of our beautiful mosaic fish which generated lots of excitement and enthusiasm.
We raised in excess of £2000 for our chosen charity supporting the work of the Methodist Church in Haiti. Sone information on the work is here.
A big thank you to everyone who helped in any way and to those who took the time to attend. The event was a huge success which could not have been achieved were it not for our amazing church community.
Finally a vote of thanks to Barbara Knee who organised our 200 days of celebrations for our 200th Anniversary.
