Report from August 2025
Our third year of August Thursday Afternoons saw the cafe area open for board games, refreshments, knit and natter, live music and friendly company. The aim of this group is to provide social activity and interaction during the summer, when many other regular groups take a break. It was anticipated that mostly older people would attend, but we also welcomed a couple of parents with children, who enjoyed some board games.
All are welcome; we advertise the sessions through local care homes, day centres, sheltered housing and the Age Concern newsletter.
Activities included music from Tom Barker and the church music group, poetry with Rosi MorganBarry and shared story-telling with Sue Colbourn.
We were grateful to Cook, Tesco and Waitrose, who provided cakes each week, and of course, to the team of volunteers who served, welcomed and washed up. We welcome any ideas for development and improvement of the sessions, and also of course, any additional volunteers.
